National Knowledge Manufacturing Conference 2025

Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho Building 4F Exhibition Room
OUTLINE
What is the National Conference of Knowledge Manufacturers?
If the knowledge and technologies of small and midsize companies across Japan could be combined beyond the boundaries of their fields and industries, what kind of innovation would emerge from this? What kind of future can be created if the strengths of many companies can be combined to solve global issues, rather than for their own profit? The National Knowledge Manufacturing Conference is a new initiative of Leave a Nest to realize these visions and, as a result, to create a situation in which Japan will once again lead the world.

Changing the World with Materials: The Great Challenge of a Long-established Spinning Company

For nearly 140 years, HASETORA Spinning has been in the textile business in Gifu Prefecture. The company was founded with the aim of "coexistence and co-prosperity with the local community" by purchasing cocoons grown by local farmers at a fair price and making the farmers' lives as prosperous as possible. The company overcame the Great Depression and has developed over a long period of time, but now the domestic spinning industry is facing a crisis of decline. Under such circumstances, Mr. Kyouji Hase, the fifth generation to succeed him, has set a new mission of "changing the world with materials" and has developed high-performance fiber products and specialty fibers by strengthening collaboration among different fields with the technology and knowledge he has cultivated up to now at the core. In recent years, the company has also entered the space and environmental industries. From here, the company will begin the great challenge of transforming itself from a spinning company into a company specializing in all kinds of materials for the next era. In his keynote speech, he will share his thoughts and trajectory in his own words.

Profile:

Declining population, shrinking markets, the concentration of people in Tokyo, and aging social infrastructure. ...... Today, Japan is faced with a mountain of major challenges. The key to overcoming these challenges lies in the revitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which have supported society up until now, and the growth of deep-tech ventures that can change the world through new technologies. In this session, we will explore the ideal relationship between small and midsize companies and ventures in the new era through discussions among people who are providing unique support for small and midsize companies, deep-tech ventures, and cooperation between the two from their respective standpoints.

Currently, Tokyo Tatemono and Livanes have started a demonstration project to realize a "regenerative city" as a new type of urban form. In collaboration with several start-ups, a "tree garden" that keeps changing and producing saplings will be created in the middle of Yaesu, Tokyo, and a rich form of life will be constructed in the gaps between cities. To realize such a future, it is essential to control air conditioning in the space and prevent deterioration of the structure.
