Session Theme: “A Long-Established Venture with Over 100 Years of History Discusses the Practice of Knowledge Manufacturing”

This session features representative mid-sized and small-to-medium-sized enterprises that have been quick to adopt and implement the “knowledge-based manufacturing” philosophy. We are pleased to welcome KOBASHI HOLDINGS from Okayama Prefecture—which has over 100 years of experience in agriculture and manufacturing—and Hase Tora Spinning from Gifu Prefecture—which has accumulated over 136 years of expertise in spinning technology—as panelists. Yukihiro Maru, author of *The New Era of Knowledge-Based Manufacturing*, will moderate a discussion covering topics ranging from the companies’ origins to why they felt a shift toward knowledge-based manufacturing was necessary now, the steps they took to implement and realize this shift within their organizations, and their future plans—all illustrated with real-world examples from both companies.

KOBASHI HOLDINGS, Inc. President and CEO Mr. Shojiro Kobashi
Born in Okayama, Japan in 1982, Mr. Kikuchi has been a manufacturer of agricultural machinery since its establishment in 1910. 2017 saw the reorganization of the KOBASHI Group to establish KOBASHI HOLDINGS Corporation, where he was appointed President and Representative Director. Under the philosophy of "Cultivating the Earth," he applies the knowledge and technology he has cultivated over the past 100 years to solve global issues. In 2020, he also established KOBASHI ROBOTICS Corporation and launched "Manufacturing Booster," which provides comprehensive support for start-up manufacturing. The company aims to implement technologies that solve global issues into society as early as possible.

Mr. Kyouji Hase, President and Representative Director, Hase Tora Boseki Co.　　
Born on January 11, 1980. A native of Gifu Prefecture. Age 44. After graduating from Reitaku Mizunami Junior and Senior High School, he enrolled at Reitaku University and graduated in March 2003. In April 2003, he joined Hasetora Spinning Co., Ltd. After serving as president of the Osaka branch and a subsidiary in China, he was appointed President and Representative Director of the Hasetora Group in December 2019, becoming the fifth-generation leader.

Yukihiro Maru, Representative Director and Group CEO, Ribanes Co., Ltd.
D. from the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Tokyo. 2002, while still a graduate student, he founded LIBANES with only undergraduate and graduate students of science and engineering. He has developed Japan's first "delivery laboratory class of cutting-edge science" into a business. He runs a "knowledge manufacturing business" that creates new businesses by combining technologies and knowledge from different fields, and is the driving force behind one of Asia's largest deep tech venture ecosystems, Tech Planter. He works to solve global issues by discovering deep issues around the world. His major publications include "Deep Tech: The 'Sleeping Technology' That Will Pioneer the Future of the World" (Nikkei BP) and "The New Era of Knowledge Manufacturing" (Liberace Publishing).
