[National Knowledge-Based Manufacturing Conference 2024] Collaboration Case Study: Vantec Co., Ltd. × Environmental Inland Water Resources Research Institute Co., Ltd. Launch of a Demonstration Test Aimed at Solving Water Environment Issues in Vietnam

Vantec Ltd. and the Environmental Inland Water Resources Research Institute Co., Ltd., which participated in the National Knowledge-Based Manufacturing Conference 2024 (held on Friday, April 12, 2024), have begun collaborating to address water environment issues in Vietnam.

Leveraging the technology, know-how, and experience in environmental business cultivated by its parent company, Ritto Sogo Sangyo Co., Ltd., Vantec is working to introduce aquaculture sludge treatment services using portable centrifuges, primarily in An Giang Province, Vietnam, in collaboration with local universities, businesses, and government officials. In this context, the company has also been addressing the critical challenges of productivity at aquaculture sites and the environmental impact on rivers and other water bodies. The Institute for Inland Water Resources and Environment is engaged in surveys, research, conservation, and management related to the maintenance of inland water environments and coastal ecosystems. As both companies share a commitment to addressing water environment issues, they have held repeated discussions since the 2024 National Knowledge-Based Manufacturing Conference.

The focus was on a rotary fine-bubble generator, one of the core technologies utilized by the Institute for Environmental Inland Water Resources. This bubble generator is capable of efficiently dissolving gases such as oxygen into water. Aqua Solutions Co., Ltd., managed by Mr. Sato, the representative of the Institute for Environmental Inland Water Resources, holds the core technology, and the device is used in various experiments and surveys conducted by the Institute. Due to its simple structure, it is easy to maintain, and since it requires no additional power as long as water flow is maintained by a pump or similar device, it is a technology that can be easily integrated into existing environments. For example, by incorporating oxygen from the air to increase dissolved oxygen levels, it can be used to promote the growth of farmed fish and improve water quality through aerobic microorganisms.

Vantech arranged demonstration sites to verify the actual effectiveness of improving the aquatic environment, and we have been advancing our collaboration, including a visit to Vietnam with Mr. Sato in December 2024. Subsequently, demonstration trials were scheduled at a major company operating a large-scale tilapia farm in An Giang Province, a company in Ho Chi Minh City conducting environmental assessments and other research, and Can Tho University, and verification is currently underway at each of these locations.

Furthermore, in response to the recognized demand within Vietnam, we are working—through an introduction by Ribance—to establish a licensing agreement between Aqua Solutions and a local manufacturer, with the goal of building a system to manufacture fine bubble generators in Vietnam.

Vantech Ltd. and the Environmental Inland Water Resources Research Institute Co., Ltd. plan to exhibit at the National Knowledge-Based Manufacturing Conference in 2025, following their participation in 2024, with the aim of bringing together like-minded individuals with the knowledge and enthusiasm to help solve Vietnam’s water environment challenges and further accelerate their activities.

The National Knowledge Manufacturing Conference is committed to promoting “knowledge manufacturing”—a process that creates new knowledge by combining existing knowledge to solve unresolved challenges. We invite you to join us at the National Knowledge Manufacturing Conference 2025, to be held on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Outline of the event

The National Knowledge Manufacturing Conference is a forum that embodies “knowledge manufacturing”—the creation of new knowledge through the combination of existing knowledge. Now in its second year, the National Knowledge Manufacturing 2025 will further expand the momentum of the knowledge manufacturing movement across Japan, featuring 60 exhibiting companies—more than the previous event—alongside partner companies that share the conference’s vision. If you are interested in the future of mid-sized, small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as startups in this new era, or in the creation of new projects through unprecedented forms of collaboration, please come to the venue on the day of the event and experience the unique energy of the event firsthand.
